Flip up your cap and ride.

Flip up, or down – Jacques Anquetil

I am not a flipper. Seeing photos like this I think I should but why? Why flip? Is it like zipping up when crossing the finish line to highlight sponsors? Is there nothing about it, it’s just something done…. for no reason?
Do you flip? Are you a flipper?

I posted I was in the market for a new cap and the nominations were here… but first.
Dear Lucy, my darling wife. There is no easy way to says this but… I bought another cycling cap. It’s a good one and from a deserving artisan. Artisans need support.
I promise I will only wear it cycling, apres cycling, doing maintenance, on the trainer, at meet-ups and other related cycling events. I promise I will not insist on wearing it to our children’s school parent teacher night, quiz night or fete. I will not wear it to adult social engagements, work, work events, Christmas parties.
To my children.. I will not promise not to embarrass you. My dad wore a tam ‘o shanter and later a sort or leather gay bikers hat (he insisted it was for sailing). I should be able to carry on that tradition.
Thank you… I love you… I do..
Now, the winner (as chosen by me) was Richard Lee’s Routier from Gal Studios. I chose it because I reckoned I needed less advertising on my head. I also wanted something for everyday use or going out (despite my apology to said family.) I have a great one from Rocket Fuel Style but it has a reflective stripe down it and across the peak — good for not getting hit by a car but not so good when socialising and a there is a camera with a flash!

Good stuff. What’s the story here from the 1955 Tour? Richard Lee’s Cycling Art Blog has the answers.

It’s Vuelta time – some classic caps in the sun

It was 1973 and Merckx was up for his first crack at the Vuelta. I love this Kodachrome shot Richard posted. It makes the Bic gear look excellent – so Spanish with the Orange.

Richard and Guy are always hard at it… cycling or doing their vodcast that is. Great stuff and they love their caps!
